Kentico Server Requirements

Recommendations for hosting Kentico systems on dedicated hardware
The recommendation's below do not take into account any 3rd party products run by the customer or 3rd party add on�s required for the web site

Software

Operating System: Windows Server 2008 Web Edition or Windows Server 2008 R2 Web Edition (Standard, Datacenter, Enterprise 2008 and 2008R2 can be used also but not required)

Enabled with the following Features:
  • Internet Information Services 7 (IIS 7)
      • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.5 or higher
      • IIS Management Console
      • Static Content Compression
      • Dynamic Content Compression
      • Common HTTP Features
        • Static Content
        • Default Document
  • Access and Address to an SMTP Server whether local or on another server

Microsoft SQL Version: 2008 R2 Web Edition (preferred option)
  • Express Edition can be used but is limited to 1GB of RAM
  • If you don't have access to SPLA licensing, Workgroup Edition can be used but is limited to 4GB or RAM
  • Older versions (2005 and 2008) can be used but we do have known compatibility issues when restoring databases from our internal development environment to these versions

Hardware

Recommended Hardware Configuration:

2 Servers - 1 Web and 1 SQL Server each with:

  • 1 CPU Core
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 5GB Free Disk Space Available for SQL Database or Web File Storage*

Alternative Hardware Configuration:

1 Server for both IIS and SQL with:

  • 1 CPU core
  • 4GB RAM
  • 10 GB Free Disk Space Available for SQL Database or Web File Storage*

*Amount does not include space for OS system files and storage for other programs or features

Accessibility

Remote Access Required for Development team:
  • FTP Access (can simply be Filezilla installed on the web server)
  • Remote Desktop Access to Web and SQL Server (SQL server for database restores)
  • MS SQL Access (either by port 1443 or by RDP)
  • Sufficient permissions on the Servers to administer IIS, full control over the web files and SQL administration.

Access to these ports can be locked down to our office IP Address: 203.214.68.210
